Anti-BL21 Serum


 Highly reactive rabbit antiserum directed against the E. coli strain BL21 (DE3). The antibody is a perfect tool to determine bacterial contamination in your BL21 expression experiments.

BL21 (DE3) is the most often used host strain for protein expression with the T7 polymerase / prophage DE3 system of Studier and Moffatt (1985). It was derived from the Lon protease deficient BL21 B-type E. coli strain (Daegelen, Studier, Lenski, Cure, Kim: "Tracing ancestors and relatives of Escherichia coli B, and the derivation of B strains REL606 and BL21(DE3)"; J. Mol. Biol., Vol. 394/4(2009): 634-643).  Its genotype is F- ompT hsdSB (r-B m-B) gal dcm (DE3). The strains are valuable for research and the fast establishment of a production and purification procedure.

Detection and Quantification of Recombinant Proteins
MicroMol's BioReference Extracts and Kits are designed for the detection of recombinant proteins and residual proteins from the production strain.
With the GST and HIS kits you can detect and quantify the protein your expression system should produce. The kits contain a reference protein of defined quantity and a ready-to-use anti-tag antibody or conjugate. Tested for ELISA and Western blotting.
The BL21 (DE3), HB101 and W3110 kits are designed for the detection of residual proteins of the expression strain. This is very important for the validation of purification methods. The relevant document rules for pharmaceutical preparations urge the producer of a recombinant protein to confirm that the purification process is able to remove all impurities from the preparation. Our kits are designed to do this by Western blotting or ELISA. They contain raw extracts of the most common production strains and an adequate antiserum that was prepared against whole cell extracts.
