W3110 Kit


 The W3110 Kit is well suited for the detection of residual proteins from the W3110 host strain in your purified protein preparation.
The Kit contains the standardized W3110 Whole Cell Extract (1 µg/µl) as positive control for ELISA and Western-Blot determination as well as the highly specific and sensitive rabbit-derived W3110 antiserum Anti-W3110 Serum.
The antibody reacts to a big extent with other E. coli K12 strains, but you might miss the proteins that were introduced by the construction of many modern W3110-derived strains used for cloning.
The antibody can not detect proteins from the F-plasmid since the strain is plasmid free.

E. coli W3110 (DSM 5911, ATCC 27325) is still the workhorse for many recombinantly expressed proteins for pharmaceutical purposes.
The strain has a well documented pedigree and is one of the most unmodified K12 strains. It was derived from a K12 wild-type by UV-irradiation and two spontaneous mutations. It is F- and  lambda-. On the other hand it is easily detected by a large genomic inversion. The strain is often modified for the specific demands of the expression system.

Detection and Quantification of Recombinant Proteins
