TCEP (tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine hydrochloride) is an odourless reducing agent with high reactivity over the range of pH 2 - 11.
We supply it as a 0.5 M solution neutralized to pH 7.0. Use it at a concentration of 5-50 mM for the reduction of your proteins e.g. for electrophoresis.
TCEP has several advantages compared to DTT and mercaptoethanol:
- Odourless - do your colleagues and yourself a favour.
- Specific - selective and complete reduction of even the most stable water-soluble disulfides.
- Simple - rapid and effective reduction at room temperature under several pH, concentration and buffer conditions.
- Stable - resistant to air oxidation and pH.
Since TCEP is very hydrophilic, it is not recommended for the reduction of disulfides in the hydrophobic core of proteins unless they are denatured (e.g. by SDS or heat).
